Apple has unveiled a new look for their operating systems called Liquid Glass. It's currently available in beta versions of MacOS, iOS, tvOS, and iPadOS, slated for a full release in September 2025.

What do you think? Although I am not an Apple user, I find this look intriguing and aesthetically pleasing. It almost feels like Apple is trying to bring back the aesthetics of the retrospectively named "Frutiger Aero" aesthetic, to an extent.

Discuss.

I think the screenshots don't do it justice. The animations are so much smoother and fluid than before. I really dig the aesthetic. I hope they'll refine it and bring more glass throughout. Right now, it seems to be a mashup of flat design and glass. I wish they'd lean more into it. It feels a bit awkward having two separate UIs.

I also think it's interesting to see how design trends evolve. We used to have glass interfaces with Aqua and Aero. They fell out of style and I definitely remember them feeling kind of old and dated when flat design came out. Now, flat design feels old and uninspiring. It'll be interesting to see if websites evolve. I wonder if we'll start to see more glassy and skeuomorphic designs from websites in general.

It's been refined further in the later beta releases.

The way the icons are presented and the way the glass effect is applied reminds me of the PlayStation 3's XMB with its icons, which is in my opinion the greatest user interface ever created.

For something designed nearly 20 years ago, this still looks fucking spectacular.

Oh my god, please let glassy icons and skeumorphism be the next design trend again.
