I feel like events were much better when they were spontaneous.

I could setup a separate server from TF just for events. But no, we're not going to join them together and be a network and have it all sync. I don't really know what the point of the event server was but it seems like something that if it's a one time thing, then I just setup the server when needed

Pretty much. If we planned a game or competition that required a specific setup or game mode we'd do it on that separate server.

The harder part IMO is to have skilled entertainers or game masters so that players don't get bored or misbehave.
