Reminder: Make sure you have access to your forum account

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to post a reminder. Over the years, there’s always been a dominant messaging platform. Before Discord, many considered Skype the standard. With the recent Discord news, it’s important to remember that the forums have always been, and continue to be, the central place for TF community members to gather. While the forums are quieter these days with the shift toward Discord, they remain an essential fallback if needed. Unlike Discord, the forums are self hosted by me, and are not owned by a (soon to be) public company. Should Discord’s situation change, the forums will still be here.

This isn’t meant to say “Discord is bad” or debate which Discord alternative is best. It’s simply a reminder that the forums are a stable, long term option. They're also the only forums currently online and accepting new registrations. The old ProBoards forum was restored after a major loss, but has been considered largely broken. The WoltLab forum at totalfreedom.me is now permanently in a read only state, with no ability to post or register.

Please take a moment to make sure you have a forum account you can access. It’s far easier to maintain an existing account than to create a new one later, especially if identity verification ever becomes necessary. I recommend double checking that your account is active, your password is up to date, and that you can successfully log in.

Thanks

The XenForo user experience goes hard. I do see a purpose in having traditional forums over servers on instant messaging platforms. You can have more formal public discussions on the forum and the options for formatting are pretty awesome compared to Discord. Much appreciated.

XenForo should have a testimonial on the front page: "Video likes it so it has to be good"
