Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is being re-released on Steam on April 8, 2025.
While many "reviewers" who are just haters would say that Big Rigs is the "worst game ever made" and that "anyone actually willing to pay the price for this game is absolutely out of their mind", I think Big Rigs was just ahead of its time. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it is the pioneer of modern video games as we know it. Most games of the time usually had the goal of actually finishing and polishing a game before release, with maybe an update or two to stop cheaters if the game has multiplayer. However, the developers at Stellar Stone were clearly thinking two decades ahead because they opted to take the novel and hugely unpopular approach of releasing an unfinished, buggy game and then patching it over time to resolves any potential issues that may come up. This weird approach is now the status quo of all modern AAA game developers and can be seen in practically every modern video game.
I used to play Big Rigs a lot when I was younger. I found it ridiculously hilarious just how completely bonkers this game was, and would even run it on school computers when I had literally nothing to do. I still occasionally download it to screw around with it because it is just so bad it's good. The ability to go so fast you literally leave the map and go at ludicrous speeds is incredible, and sometimes after completing a single race you will automatically win subsequent races the moment they start for some reason, sometimes before you even finish loading the map.
Truly the peak of gaming. I'm going to be wishlisting this one for sure. You can do so too by going to its Steam page here.
