Many people like myself grew up with Roblox when it was still in its relative infancy (around 2009 - 2014). The engine was incredibly primitive, the games were unpolished, the security of everything was absolutely abysmal, and the only real currency of value to game-makers at the time was place count, which represented clout. The real jankness and Lego-like aesthetic really added to the charm of the platform, and while you might think that the platform nowadays is fun, nothing will beat the memorable moments I spent playing it for hours at a time when I was growing up.
While a by-gone era for sure, a community has since sprung up with the goal of looking for old versions of the player and its IDE known as Studio to preserve them in much the same way as the Omniarchive has with Minecraft. Unfortunately, by around 2022, Roblox decided to nuke nearly 10-11 years of history from their archives. As a result, almost a decade's worth of old Roblox versions are considered lost media, and are now being sought after. While not the primary goal of the preservation community, I have decided to wield the massive amount of influence I gained due to my development of various tools for them to use to ensure that these years of history (in which the platform evolved from a limited Lego rip-off to a full-fledged MMORPG capable of hosting multi-million dollar events) gets preserved and indexed before it's too late.
If you played Roblox between the years 2009 and 2020 and still have the computers or hard drives you used to play it with, get in contact with me immediately. I will guide you through the process of checking to see if you have anything.
